If you’re among the many to have lost their jobs in the recession, you can probably recite ad nauseum the advice you’ve been given to increase your visibility and land a new gig: update your resume, start a blog in your area of expertise and perfect your profile on social networking sites, etc.

In this age of social media, Twitter has emerged as one of the primary tools for jobseekers. Many companies have Twitter accounts and post openings. There also are a slew of career experts on Twitter who dole out advice on seemingly straightforward topjcs such as “What should I wear to my interview?” Career-focused site Careerealism.com even hosts a “Twitter Advice Project” which lets you pose a career-related question to its experts via Twitter.

But the official debut this week of @JobEachDay, a self-described Twitter “experiment,” by career expert Brian McCullough, may just upend the apple cart in the way people conduct a realtime job search. It works like this:  Each day, a member is selected and JobEachDay tweets that person’s needs to the group. Members with any leads, advice or tips respond to the request in kind. The jobseeker then decides who gave the most useful information, making that person the next day’s featured jobseeker.

“It’s a true experiment in crowd-sourced job seeking,” McCullough wrote on his blog, The Job Bored. The idea, McCullough said, was sparked by an interest in seeing what would happen if he could get a large mass of job seekers together, pooling their collective intel (sic) on the job market.”

JobEachDay is the latest sign that crowdsourcing is becoming a potent force in all walks of life as people seek to bypass the middleman and communicate directy with their audience. In the recent U.K. General Election, for example, both Labour and Conservative parties used crowdsourcing techniques to reach voters.

The U.K. voters have long since made their election decision. It willl be interesting to monitor the progress of JobEachDay to see if this “experiment” can gain enough followers to reach critical mass and provide truly crowd-sourced solutions.
